AI powered Tailor-made Courses

In one of my previous articles, I proposed pluggable courses for schools, colleges, and online/offline diploma providers. In this article, I present to you some points on the AI-made subject outline and AI-made syllabus of the course. The course for example can be an open elective course. Let’s see how!

Let’s consider the use case first. There are students who want to do something different in a subject, which is allowed to be tailor-made by the teachers, or institution they are part of. The students seek different content to be studied in this course. Some want to study the introduction of both fashion designing and to study hotel management essentials while others want to study parts of maths and parts of engineering applications and some want to study the introduction of Quantum Computing and the introduction of AI both in one course, one more example some students would like to study dance forms from west and east and not study northern ones. Given the time limit and bandwidth of free slots for courses in an institution for a degree or diploma, all things can’t fit into one subject. And some students don’t want to specialize in just higher maths only, while they would love to learn modules from many areas to be introduced to these subjects. This introduction can help them to choose the right area of specialization in higher courses. Sometimes these sandwich subjects can be interesting and not boring and even senior students in institutions can take advanced maths with advanced physics and that makes it interesting.

Here are details of this in question answer form.

How would this work?

Well, there are a lot of online courses in so many subjects, all the course providers need is a collaboration with institutions and allow the parts of the course to be provided as modules to them.

Modules, what are modules of course?

Each online course is made of subparts or units as some call them. These modules can be provided along with their description to the AI software.

How would students search for the course?

Students can search by keywords as well as they could write what they want to learn in the AI software and suggestions of related modules shall be shown to students. The students can save the most relevant modules in AI software.

How would students finalize the modules?

The modules would appear on students’ login just like a shopping cart looks like. The software won’t allow clashing modules, to check for the same or conflicting syllabus. Conflicting subjects can be defined by the institution. For example, if the institution is an engineering college and the student added a module on a tea plantation, it all depends on the similarity of the description of the module and the institution’s allowed courses.

How to generate a syllabus for the course?

The AI software shall provide an overview and outline of the course based on the module selected by the student. This would be added to the grade card of the student.

How many major areas can the student take modules from?

Mostly it can be three, once again this is dependent on the institution.

Once modules are in the cart can students get the customized course?

Yes, but human moderators can cross-verify the syllabus chosen for an elective course. The coordinator can do the check and approve it.

What would be the name of the subject taken by the student?

This would again be generated by AI software, where module names can be read with their description to generate maximum of three major areas

Would it need a lot of work for the course provider?

This depends on how the course provider has added modules form courses.

Would this be a online course?

Yes, this course have modules taken from an online course provider. One subject per semester can be online, given the dearth of specialist teachers in most areas for the latest technologies and important modules.

In the end, students would be graded as per institutions guidelines and both the students and institutions shall be happy. Students would be happy as they got to learn what they wanted to learn from an open elective while the institution is happy as in this cost they could not have found specialists to teach students in this free slot subject, that too with expertise and experience of faculty available on online learning platforms.
