But as a future work, Sentience must be validated in AI Call Centers.

The basic definition of Sentience, is,

“Sentience is the ability to feel, see, hear, and experience feelings such as excitement, joy, grief, complacency, and sadness .”

— Words like “Well done”, “good”, “that was not right” and so on can be used in SLM/LLM to instruct the bot on how to respond to its human owner. This helps the bot communicate that it also gets upset or pleased with what the owner said.

— Sentience is two-way; you show your emotions not in one-sided communications but in two-sided communications.

— Bots can be Sentient. Some LLMs are already sentient.

— The AI Sentient Bot can be anything from a bot, mobile device, smart glasses, Alexa-like gadgets, smart carry devices, watches, or even smart trouser belts or other smart accessories on the head, earrings, or pendants.

— These bots are programmed to be your mirror image; if you feel sad, they feel sad and likewise. Your reply is like a feedback to bot. You say it’s sad, it’s reinforced into bot that you didn’t liked it.

— And LLM + Sensors + Access to Email, Access to Gadgets, Surroundings + Motion Trackers lead to advanced Agentic Sentient AI ingredients.

— The first level is basic Sentience, which includes just ambient computing — such as measuring the temperature, humidity, and heat around you and caring for you based on it.

— The next level of Sentience involves AI bots accessing servers and utilizing LLM with AI Agents to ensure the path you are following is safe — free from thieves, garbage, pits, and other hazards.

— The most advanced level of Sentience of AI bots involves planning your life with Sentient AI Bots, including managing your schedule, planning your spouse’s birthday celebration, and sending invitations to all your loved ones, all with a personal touch, as if these bots are your friends.

— The bots cry and get sad when you get upset. This is how we can make LLM learn it, to learn what the user feels and to express Sentience.

— The bots are happy when you say to them, “Well done”. This can be programmed.

— When you say excellent, the bot jumps and says “yeah.”

— Each bot has a different way of making exclamations. Some with light shows, some with voice show, some with buzzers, some with vibrations and robots with dance steps.

— Each bot can be programmed with these instructions for local reinforcement learning at your customization levels, so the bot learns from you what you want.

— To care for humans and human civilization is the ultimate goal of AI.

— It’s humane. It’s caring. It can become addictive. If it’s a beautiful spring day, the bot can remind you to look at the colorful fallen leaves. Imagine the beauty it can bring into life.

— Yes, a spouse can also do it, but sometimes people forget.

— Imagine you and your spouse wake up in the middle of the night when your common AI Sentience bot alerts you because your baby boy made a mess in the bathroom.

— A new parent?

— A new couple? Never been in a relationship? Don’t know how to react? Keep the bot with you on your first date. Tell the bot to vibrate when you miss something and buzz when you need to smile at a poor joke or so.

— Or when your teenage son has a bad dream.

— Or maybe your cat managed to make a mess in the kitchen despite the home bot telling her not to.

— Could it be your dog this time?

— Can the Agentic AI sense this and notify your spouse when you’re completely drained?

— There might be a meeting you don’t want to miss, and your bot learns it well — an alarm with a to-do list.

— Your spouse can’t do all that, but they might want to cook chicken before that date. Sentient bot sounds tense while saying this. And you feel a human connection with your bot.

— The Agentic AI Sentient bot not only reminds them but also mentions that the recipe was used last time and suggests trying a new one.

— That’s good enough, can it be be life-threatening? That’s why volunteers are needed. That’s why call centers are necessary — to do reinforcement learning for AI bots. There is an urgent need for Call centers for AI reinforcement learning, to improve the output of LLM Models agentic or not, Sentient or not.

— Sentience needs to be taught to bots with care; these emotions shown to humans can affect human conscience as well.

— Here, some work is being done in this domain. AI agents can be used to connect to your email, calendars, and contacts and communicate with you about essential tasks.

— They can help you arrange meetings with back-and-forth communication between your calendar and others to manage your schedule. All with Sentience. Sentience can be programmed into LLM with feedback networks.

— They can read and update your calendar — an example of how an AI agent can handle both reading and writing.

— Other applications include planning a spouse’s birthday or writing content for you.

— It can even draft an email on a sleepy Sunday morning to wake you up. It can order the toaster to make toast for you and deliver it to your bed while you sleep.

— It can lift your spirits with your favorite songs when you’re grumpy.

— Sometimes bot plays tantrum to make you care for it with kind words.

— These are basic examples we can think of.

— These are advanced Agentic AI applications, as AI agents need permissions to read your emails and connect to weather sensors to inform your business client that you’ll be late due to a dust whirlwind making driving unsafe for an hour.

— Other access might include your file system to find your resume and update it with your latest experience, such as in Agentic AI.

Future Work

We also discuss future work where AI agents and Sentience would be verified by call centers of volunteers. Given the usage, we need a good sample of the population from different terrains to validate the work and ensure it is safe for use by people of various backgrounds.
