Hearing or Hard-of-Hearing Problems with AI Assistance

Summary- A person with a hearing problem can see an avatar that resembles the person talking to them in sign language. Whether it’s a movie or daily routines, this requires machine learning to predict and convert what a similar-looking avatar is saying into sign language (as in the Hand Talk App), perhaps wearing the same-colored clothes as the speaker. This would make group discussions easier to understand.

People with hearing loss or those who are hard of hearing can benefit from AI. May mankind develop solutions so they can hear for themselves without the help of AI and technological advances. But until such innovations come for hard-of-hearing humans, we can develop robust AI assistance. More advanced captioning is now available for them. Sign language translators are limited to some government conversations and news agencies.

There is an app — Hand Talk — to convert text to sign language. It’s good that you get to choose the avatar and see the conversions.

But AI can improve on the Hand Talk app more. Read how,

We can have real time avatars on a screen connected to TV? One avatar per character of the scene, movie, news, song and more.

We should have AI glasses, such as Meta glasses, that convert everything said around the person into sign language on the glasses screen — not just captions —with each person taking a different avatar?

If not AI glasses, a smartwatch or other smart gadget with a screen to show people would be a tough one.

Collaborate with Hand Talk to expedite the delivery of this technology.

Until this is done, captions should be in different colors based on the receiver’s voice to differentiate conversations of multiple people.

That is, in a real-world situation, you go out to market, you see and hear different people. Each person is converted into an avatar that uses AI to render it in sign language for display on the glass screen.

Look how much it can benefit people to understand the spoken words then.

The Hand Talk app is available on the Google Play Store. We expect Meta and its likes to make this tech available as well.

It can be learned with Machine Learning Techniques if Hand Talk is not in a collaborative mode.

There are other technologies for people with hard of hearing use such as:

  1. XRAI Glass
  2. HearView Caption Glasses
  3. Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
  4. Captify Glass

These glasses convert spoken languages to captions.

But here we discuss something like Hand Talk, with captions and real-time sign language translations.

Means something like-

When the person with a hearing problem watches the movie, he can see the avatars using sign language on a parallel screen rather than only reading the captions. Means a script made with AI for people who have hard-to-hear problems. We can use Hand Talk or train new models to leverage machine learning.

This can be used in watching a parallel TV where the online conversions are shown in sign language; it’s not easy to read captions all the time. But caption reading was a real milestone that technology gave us.

This article was written as a sincere effort to help the people with this problem. We hope it helps.

Let’s hope for the best advancements in technology, science, and biology for the welfare of mankind.
