A virus consists of genetic material inside a cover; it typically needs living cells to replicate. Viruses we know have all been infectious except for those deprecated in a vaccine. But current research focuses on using viruses to treat infections, primarily bacterial infections. Scientists at Stanford designed 16 viruses from scratch that can kill different kinds of bacteria; this has both positive and negative sides. You may consider them as neutral side too.
And, morally, we should be more responsible about the human-made things! Be it a virus or a mammoth! Do we need them if they can save lives or treat illness?
Ethically, we should not create an artificial AI virus; it’s like creating a new life form by Man! Human-made, I mean! Why do we need humans to make species? This is all creation of God? Is this ethical or moral?
Legally, there are no laws as of now; we need them-the laws! How to stop the virus from mutating? How to keep them just for medical cure! How to stop them from lab leaks? Legal frameworks need to be ready to mitigate a lab leak or mutations of these artificial viruses. We need legal measures for these!

The virus may replicate in bacteria and may edit its own DNA. This produces an altogether new virus that can be dangerous to healthy cells in plants, animals, and even humans.
Viruses are known to mutate.
What if these AI-made viruses, which are not found in nature, mutate? What would they produce? This can be tested in labs! Yes, we can see which mutations are most likely and which could be dangerous. More can be done to track virus growth inside bacterial infections that the virus is intended to cure.

Why create an artificial virus? Nature creates all it needs, so why an artificial virus?
Is it like creating a dinosaur again from its unhatched egg artificially?
Have we forgotten the coronavirus leak from a Wuhan, China, lab? We need to set up precautions around the learnings from the coronavirus outbreak. Could an artificial virus would have saved lives then? No/Yes, but we need to be cautious about it. We need proofs!
