Zippy the Robotic Cook is here: Ethics, Challenges and Future Work

So, what is Zippy the Cooking Robot up to? In the video below, Zippy looks impressive. While it can’t replace human cooks just yet, it can assist them during peak times.

— No cook like many people in the kitchen, but they wouldn’t mind a helping hand from a robot in, say, a stadium, where demands of food are high ?

— High demand for food during peak hours makes food costly. Keeping a Robotic chef nearby can help reduce stress levels for both cooks and customers, as affordable, good food is available during these busy times.

— Sometimes, even if the food price is determined by prime locations, the food outlet can provide and double up, keeping profits up and serving more people with Robotic arms help.

— So, Robotic Cooks can be of help

— But ethically, it should not replace the chef; the human touch in food is great. Some cooks truly have a magical essence.

— Robotic cooking may struggle to operate without a chef in the kitchen. For instance, think about three bowls: one containing red spice sauce, another with red chili sauce, and the last with red tomato paste. Which one would the cooking robot choose for a chicken curry?

— The robot still needs assistance with many similar tasks.

— Another example of confusion for Kitchen Robot is — whether it should choose coriander mixture, spinach mixture, or broccoli green paste to make spinach chicken (given all three paste look similar).

— Another source of confusion is bottles that contain cumin powder, black pepper powder, or coffee powder, particularly when the bottles are unlabeled. Labeled bottles can be effectively analyzed by Robotic Cooks using its excellent image processing capabilities.

— The food cooked by the Robotic Arm must be tested well.

— AI engineers will soon find solutions for such situations; meanwhile, these moments may confuse kitchen robots.

— If the paints mentioned are made with chatGPT, then kitchen robots can also classify them.

— We don’t know whether Zippe might get confused in the kitchen.

— Another important aspect is the kitchen robot’s mobility; this independence relies on its ability to move around effectively.

Is Zippe mobile in the kitchen and meeting with her customers?

— All these issues might take hours to resolve if you create a Cooking Robot, or some issues would need human experts with them all time. It’s good to keep a Master Chef who is human alongside Robotic Cooks and guide them in a semi-supervised way.

— Please let us know if your robotic arm is confusing in the kitchen.

— In the future, cooking robots can be sent to fields where single men stay and prepare delicious meals for them; this could also be a navy base.
