AI-based Assessments for Children, Ultimately Predicting their Future Choices

Schoolchildren can be divided into 3–4 groups: kindergarten, primary, and secondary school. Kindergarten students require special attention, and AI-based assessment is usually not meant for them, as we need to understand what these young kids are writing. It is interesting to know and motivating to evaluate, even though grades are not assigned. It is at this age that children lay the foundation for their future. So, it is important that students are understood, encouraged, corrected, and communicated with. Hence, we need a small teacher-to-student ratio, with fewer students and more teachers. However, these answer books can be uploaded to this AI software so it can understand them. In the training phase, AI would need to work closely with the Primary school teachers, means students answerbook comments are added in AI fully.

Primary school students also need attention in the early years. As they grow from third to fifth grade, their homework can be fully evaluated with AI. AI is advancing quickly and can understand and scan answer books, which can reduce the load on teachers. In places around the world where there is a dearth of teachers, or where schools can’t afford teachers, this can be especially helpful. This is also useful in times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, when there were lockdowns and students studied online. Scanning and evaluating can be a good way to reduce pressure on teachers and can be beneficial to children if the AI is well trained to respond to homework sheets and answer books. However, in the training phase, AI would need to work closely with the Primary school teachers.

Secondary school is filled with preteens and teenagers. They are full of vigor, joy, and excitement. Here, answer books are used to evaluate children’s grades. Children now understand that they can fall behind in their grades. Here, AI not only reduces the workload of senior school teachers but also helps analyze the specialization of high school children. These years lay the groundwork for the future, and the way a student writes over the years can be stored in AI memory, much better than a human teacher. The AI can even predict how a student can grow their interest in a specific subject.

We need to create an AI that can truly know a child throughout all 12 years he spends in school. Such an AI must be free from the constraints of school changes, which can prevent a child from knowing what his future carer would be like. AI can predict the future choices a child can have if not predict fully, AI can give options to the children.

We need this AI across states, cities, and countries. Travel anywhere, but your global AI would know your homework and answerbook evaluations. And it can predict your future specializations.

No, it would be kept secure. You won’t have to worry about it being leaked. It’s just for the student to be evaluated so he can make the right choices in life, choices that lead to a better future. Some people choose specializations just because of availability, money or social pressure. Now one can tell from these evaluations the inherent desire of a child’s profession, the areas the student can do well in, or even the child’s future career, which is not limited to just monetary gains. Yes, we need cybersecurity for that.

This AI does not exist as of now; we need to make it with the help of teachers and administration. Initially, it would be based on uploading answer books, the teachers’ evaluations, and teachers’ comments; later, it would become an independent unit for evaluations. The training phase can take time to make it available for real use; right now, the work has not started on this area.

We wish you luck and hope your children find a better future, with or without AI. AI can help for sure. Know the kind of AI that would be used; it should be safe AI, not unsafe AI.
